‘Pretty Lethal’ director Vicky Jewson says Uma Thurman is an ‘icon’: Discusses her villainous role in latest film

Veteran actress Uma Thurman is back on the screen with her latest feature, ‘Pretty Lethal’, and people cannot seem to get enough of the revenge-filled action piece. Seemingly, although Thurman has admitted that she does not like to do violence, she revealed recently that her latest project spoke to her and was a mix of a lot of genres that appealed to her. Director of ‘Pretty Lethal, Vicky Jewson, recently opened up about working with the idol, citing that she was one of the best villains that he worked with.Read ahead to know more about what he had to share. While talking at the 2026 SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas, about her latest film, she expressed how grateful she was for everything. PEOPLE reported that Thurman, who stars in the hit TV show ‘Pretty Lethal’, was also there that night. While talking about working with the ‘Kill Bill’ actor, the director stated, “Uma is obviously an icon, and she can play a villain like nobody else can.” She further talked about how versatile her character on screen is, citing that “She has a wicked sense of humor, and she also brings empathy to the character that allows you to stay with the character when the most absurd stuff happens. I don’t think anyone but someone of Uma’s talent could do that.”This is not the first time that Thurman has been brought back to the villain role. She rose to fame after her feature as a lethal assassin in ‘Kill Bill’ and ‘Kill Bill Vol 2.’ Other than that, she has also distanced herself in general from action roles; however, she joined the cast for her last stint as Poison Ivy in ‘Batman and Robin.’The premise of the film is built around 5 ballerinas who get stuck in a motel after their car tyre is punctured. While waiting, Thurman comes unannounced, ready to take on the world and seek revenge.
