The release date of
Ryan Gosling's 'Project Hail Mary' was shifted from March 20 to March 26, 2026, reportedly to avoid a clash with
Ranveer Singh's 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge' in India. And now, the co-directors of the Hollywood film, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, have reacted to the postponement of their movie.
'Project Hail Mary' directors react to release date shift in India
In an interview with the Hindustan Times, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller shared about how the popularity of Indian movies is growing worldwide. Phil expressed that decades ago the release date of the Indian movie would have been shifted for the smooth arrival of a Hollywood film. Talking about the current scenario, he said, "How dare you have your own successful film industry?"
The filmmaker further shared that out of the top 10 movies in the United States, there would be one Bollywood film. He said, "Those movies play in American theaters. Most Americans go, 'What's that?' but there is a big audience for it."
In the same interview, co-director Christopher Miller said, "And it's growing every year. Indian films in America have begun to gain broad cultural relevance, starting with 'RRR'."
The director added that SS Rajamouli's 'RRR' did something that no other Indian movie ever did before. He said that it took Indian cinema beyond its core viewership in the US. He said, "That really spread out beyond just those seeking it out."
