Rebecca Ferguson reveals Lady Jessica was originally cut from ‘Dune: Part Three': 'There’s a lot of FOMO'
Rebecca Ferguson reveals her role in 'Dune: Part Three' is significantly reduced, appearing in just one scene. She expressed mixed feelings of excitement and FOMO, acknowledging her character's journey was primarily in the first two installments. Despite the brief appearance, Ferguson praised director Denis Villeneuve's masterful approach to storytelling.
Rebecca Ferguson says her role in ‘Dune: Part Three’ is far smaller than in the first two films, revealing that Denis Villeneuve brought her back for just one scene. Speaking about the next chapter in the sci-fi saga, the actress said she felt both excited and left out as the story moved forward with less space for Lady Jessica. Her comments arrive as interest builds around the film, which is set to reach theaters on December 18 and is billed as the final chapter in Villeneuve’s trilogy.

Speaking on Josh Horowitz’s ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast, Ferguson shared new details about her return to the franchise while promoting ‘Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man’. As Deadline also noted in its report on the growing rollout for the film, ‘Dune: Part Three’ draws from Frank Herbert’s 1969 novel ‘Dune Messiah’ and has already started ramping up excitement with fresh character posters and a trailer launch.

Ferguson made it clear that her part in the new film is brief. “I just dipped my toe in. I have no, sort of, comments on it,” she said. “The script is great, I’ve read it. I think it’s gonna be fantastic. But my journey was No. 1 and 2. I don’t even think she [my character] was supposed to be in 3. And then Denis was like, ‘I need to have one scene,’ and I get one scene.”

Lady Jessica in ‘Dune: Part Three’

The actress, who played Lady Jessica in 2021’s ‘Dune’ and 2024’s ‘Dune: Part Two’, said returning to the set came with mixed feelings.
“And that was a weird feeling, walking onto a set that you know so well, and knowing that you don’t have a part of it. There’s a lot of FOMO. And the acceptance of, ‘This is just what it is.’ You just have to serve [the story].”Even with a smaller role, Ferguson spoke warmly about working with Villeneuve again. Praising the filmmaker, she said, “He’s just intelligent, creative; he’s a master, and he works with people that he makes better, and they make him better. It’s a symbiosis. And they are few and far between.”‘Dune: Part Three’ stars Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Isaach de Bankolé, Robert Pattinson, Florence Pugh, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem. With the cast returning and the trailer on the way, Ferguson’s candid update has only added to anticipation around the film’s final stretch.
