They described him as “a beautiful soul” and spoke openly about his long battle with mental illness. “We are bereft at the loss of this beautiful soul and want to acknowledge Bobby’s valiant struggle against his nearly two-decade battle with Bipolar Disorder,” the family said. They expressed hope that sharing his story would help reduce stigma around mental health.His older brother, actor Keith Carradine, also spoke about the loss. “It is an illness that got the best of him, and I want to celebrate him for his struggle with it, and celebrate his beautiful soul,” he said.
He added that there is no shame in the illness and urged people to remember Robert for the warmth and humor he brought to others.
