Russo Brothers, Jonas Brothers: Working with siblings

There are plenty of famous sibling pairs who have ended up partnering in business and creative ventures together. The one advantage is that they understand each other perfectly, and are almost like doubles partners in a racquet game where each partner knows instinctively who among them will step back and who will move forward to take a shot. Several successful pairs in the creative arts have continued their family bonding all the way into work such as the Russo brothers, Warner brothers, the Carpenters, Billie Eilish who collaborates with her brother, the Jonas brothers, the famous Osmond Brothers and the Jackson Family singers who formed the Jackson 5.

Here is the story behind their ventures together:

2/6

Russo Brothers

Anthony and Joseph Russo were born a little more than a year apart. Their parents were into law, but both brothers graduated with English as one of their main subjects. They later went to Case Western Reserve University and while Anthony studied law Joe took to acting. They decided to take student loans and made Pieces, a film that they entered into the Slamdance Film Festival, where it was noticed by Steven Soderbergh and they were offered a crime comedy, Welcome to Collinwood to direct. Several other projects followed and the rest leading up eventually to the MCU.

3/6

Warner Bros.

The Warner Bros. studio and film business is celebrating 100 years in 2023. Their parents were Polish-Jewish and migrated to America, the land of opportunity and dreams in the late 1880s. The four brothers – Harry, Albert, Sam and Jack – had Polish names, which they dropped and the three older boys hired a movie projector to set up theatres and show films in mining towns. By 1904, they ventured into film distribution, before producing films of their own during the time of the first World War. Sam and Jack produced them while Harry and Albert looked after finance and distribution. That's how their partnership, now in its 101st year, took root.

4/6

Carpenters

The brother-sister of Richard and Karen Carpenter set up the vocal-instrumental group of the same name and their songs have lived on in public memory for almost 60 years. The two started performing in the mid-60s with Richard on the piano and Karen singing and playing other instruments. They were signed up by a record company and tasted great success with their first two singles, Close to You and We’ve Only Just Begun. That was their beginning and the next decade was marked by continuous touring and a string of hits, with 12 top-ten singles among them such as Please Mr Postman and Leaving on a Jet Plane. They could not take the pressures of touring and both had health problems. In 1983, Karen died of a cardiac arrest, cutting short their successful career. Their songs, though, live on in people’s hearts and minds.

5/6

Billie Eilish and Finneas Baird O’Connell

The two are brother and sister. As singer-songwriter and music producer, Finneas has written for several singers, but mostly for his sister Billie Eilish’s vocal range. Together, their work has won Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year and several more accolades. Billie is among the world’s top singers and won fame with her debut single Ocean Eyes which was both written and produced by her older brother, Finneas. They are the children of two musicians and together, the family of four all collaborate on Billie’s tours all over the world. Their parents taught them about song-writing and music.

6/6

The Jonas Brothers

Nick, Joe and Kevin have swayed hearts – and stages – with their pop-rock acts and performances. Now, all three are married and have children of their own, but they continue to tour and do concerts together. The three gained fame after they were signed up by Disney for their television channel and have been singing together for almost 18 years. They are still young with the eldest Kevin being 35, Joe 33 and Nick 30. Nick is married to famous Indian star Priyanka Chopra, while Joe is married to actor Sophie Turner and Kevin’s wife is Daniella, a well-known social media influencer and Reality TV star.
