Harvey Weinstein to Kevin Spacey: Hollywood's #MeToo accused brought to trial

At a time when Hollywood's biggest names are being brought to trial over sexual assault allegations during the #MeToo movement, many in India have been left asking, "Name one MAN who was called out during India’s #MeToo who has faced the consequences of his actions?" Disgraced filmmaker Sajid Khan, who was one of the many Bollywood power players accused during the movement, found himself back in the headlines, following his entry into the Bigg Boss house. Despite appeals by netizens and celebrities to evict Khan from the show, he continues to feature on prime-time TV.

Here's a list of Hollywood celebrities from Harvey Weinstein to Kevin Spacey, Paul Haggis and more who are currently on trial on charges of sexual misconduct.

Disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein, who has already been convicted of third-degree rape and a first-degree criminal sexual act, is on trial in Los Angeles where he has been accused of committing sexual battery by restraint against a woman. It is one of 11 rape and sexual assault counts against the 70-year-old producer. He was previously given a 23-year sentence and faces up to 140 years in prison in the new trial.

Kevin Spacey, on Monday, began court proceedings on allegations of sexual assault of a minor. Anthony Rapp claimed that Spacey tried to take him to bed when he was just 14. The actor testified in a New York court and admitted entertaining Rapp and his friend, John Barrowman, but said he was sure that he was never alone with Rapp, and that the claims against him were not true. Rapp is seeking $40 million in damages in a civil trial. Spacey is also on trial for criminal charges in the UK but it will take until 2023 until those charges are heard.

Monday also marked the start of the case against Oscar-winning director Paul Haggis, who was accused of allegedly assaulting a woman in his Soho home on January 13, 2013. Over the past months, five women have come forward to accuse Haggis of sexual assault. The director could face financial punishment but no jail sentence. Paul made headlines when he convinced a judge that he can argue that the Church of Scientology was behind the sexual assault allegations and argues that they are going after him for leaving the church.

'That '70s Show' actor Danny Masterson, is also in court, battling allegations of rape. Masterson is charged with raping the women between 2001 and 2003 in his home, which functioned as a social hub when he was at the height of his fame. One of the women had been Masterson's longtime girlfriend, while the other was a longtime friend and the third an acquaintance. The actor has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

In September, R Kelly was found guilty in a federal child pornography case. The singer has not yet been sentenced in the Chicago federal case, but he was sentenced earlier this year to 30 years in prison for a federal conviction in New York on racketeering and sex trafficking charges. The #MeToo movement is said to be one of the pivotal forces in aiding the conviction of the singer.
