On the tenth anniversary of Robin Williams' death, Field spoke with Vanity Fair about how Williams’ supportive nature was not widely known. She recounted a moment from the set of Mrs. Doubtfire when she received devastating news. Her father had suffered a stroke and was in a nursing facility. Field got a call from the doctor saying her father had passed away from another stroke. The doctor asked if she wanted to put him on a life-support machine, but Field chose to let him go, asking the doctor to tell him goodbye on her behalf.

Despite her deep sadness, Field tried to continue working on set. Williams, noticing her distress, approached her with genuine concern. He asked her if she was okay, sensing that something was wrong. When Field admitted that her father had just passed away, Williams immediately took action. He arranged for the filming schedule to be adjusted so Field could leave the set and attend to her family matters.

Field described how Williams' sensitivity and intuition made a significant difference during this difficult time. He ensured that she could go home, contact her brother, and make the necessary arrangements without having to worry about work. This compassionate gesture highlighted a side of Robin Williams that many people didn’t see—his deep empathy and caring nature.
