Samantha Cope files for divorce from Joey Lawrence after two years of marriage

Joey Lawrence's wife, Samantha Cope, has officially filed for divorce after just two years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences.

According to reports from TMZ, Samantha is seeking full physical custody of their 19-month-old daughter, Dylan, and is also requesting that neither she nor Joey receive spousal support.

The couple, who first met during the filming of the Lifetime movie ‘My Husband’s Secret Brother’ in 2020, quickly became inseparable, leading to their engagement in August 2021 and their marriage in May 2022. The birth of their daughter, Dylan, in January 2023 seemed to be a joyful milestone for the couple. However, recent developments suggest otherwise.

Samantha has made several moves that indicate the relationship was on shaky ground long before the official filing. She unfollowed Joey on Instagram and removed his name from her bio, which fans quickly noticed. Additionally, she has been sharing cryptic posts on social media, hinting at the end of their relationship. One such post from June 11 read, "Not everything you lose is a loss. Some things are a freedom" This quote, along with others from Brianna Wiest’s self-help book ‘101 Essays That Will Change the Way You Think,’ suggests that Samantha has been contemplating the decision for some time.


In the divorce documents, Samantha has outlined her custody wishes for Dylan, requesting that Joey have limited visitation rights. Specifically, she has asked that Joey be allowed to have Dylan under his care for a maximum of two nights a week, but only after she turns three years old. Until then, Samantha insists that Joey should wait before having extended custody, arguing that their daughter is too young to make such choices. Furthermore, Samantha has stipulated that no one unrelated to Dylan, unless she permits it, should be present during Joey's visitation.

This marks the end of a chapter in Joey Lawrence's personal life that began shortly after his split from his ex-wife, Chandie Yawn-Nelson, in 2020. Joey and Chandie were married for 15 years and share two daughters, Charleston, 18, and Liberty, 14. Samantha’s entrance into Joey’s life appeared to be a fresh start, but their relationship has now reached an unexpected conclusion.
