As the famous Carrie Bradshaw of Sex and The City fame said, “No matter who broke your heart or how long it takes to heal, you’ll never get through it without your girlfriends.”
And she’s right. There’s no denying the fact that when you are down and out, there are only two things that can cheer you up — a big tub of ice cream and a good cry on your girlfriend’s shoulder.

Julie & Julia
Fed up with her dead-end job, Julie (Amy Adams), who harbours a passion for cooking, decides to cook every recipe in Julia Child’s book Mastering the Art of French Cooking, while documenting her progress on a blog at the same time. Woven into Julie’s story is the story of Julia Child herself and her growth in the 50s. The story overlaps in many places, making the entire experience of watching it, delightful. Don’t watch this one hungry, ladies! There are plenty of dishes that are absolutely drool-worthy.

Million Dollar Baby
Hillary Swank plays a boxer Maggie Fitzgerald, with an attitude that won’t quit. In an important fight, Maggie falls, breaks her neck and is bedridden. Undettered, her only focus is to get back to boxing. However, a series of events lead her to become a quadriplegic. Watch this one if you are looking for some inspiration.
Bridget Jones’s Diary
This 2001-comedy film, based on a novel by Helen Fielding of the same name, is the story of a single, frustrated woman and her quest for what seems unattainable to every other woman in her thirties — to lose weight, find her one true love and start a family before her time runs out. Bridget, played by Renée Zellweger, is endearing and charming, but most of all, she scores big on being that one woman who allows you to believe that ‘it will all work out in the end.’
Thelma and Louise
The 1991 drama, Thelma and Louise is the kind of film that will want to make you to get into a car with your girlfriend and just take off! Narrating the story of Thelma (Geena Davis) and Louise (Susan Sarandon), it takes us on a journey of two women, waiting to break the shackles of monotony and the consequences that the encounter on the trip that, literally, changes the course of their lives.
Steel Magnolias
An adaptation of a play by the same name, Steel Magnolias traces the lives and loves of the gals of Truvy’s Beauty Parlour in a small parish in modern-day Louisiana. It is an emotional roller coaster as the movie unfolds, for it makes us both laugh and cry as the realities of the lives of these women hit close to home. The film features an ensemble cast of Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Julia Roberts and Daryl Hannah in addition to Olympia Dukakis. What more can you ask for?
Erin Brockovich
This film which earned an Academy Award for its actress Julia Roberts, traces the life of Erin Brockovich, a single mother who becomes a legal assistant and almost brings down a California power supply company which is accused of polluting the city. Based on a true story, the film sure is a testament to the never-give-up attitude of a woman, not to forget, inspirational.
