Teyana Taylor wins big at Golden Globes: ‘We belong in every room we walk into. Our voices matter’
Earlier today, Teyana Taylor scored the first award of the night as she won the award for best supporting actress in a motion picture for her stint in ‘One Battle After Another.’ During her speech, she dedicated the award to her ‘brown brothers and sisters’, and sobbed as she accepted the honour.
She gave a powerful speech as she accepted what is considered one of the highest honour awards in the film industry. She stated in her speech that “To my brown sisters and little brown girls watching tonight, our softness is not a liability. Our depth is not too much. Our light does not need permission to shine. We belong in every room we walk into. Our voices matter, and our dreams deserve space.”
She further continued, joking about how her children are in the seating area upstairs and that they should be watching her and be “better be off them damn phones,” making everyone laugh at her comment.
She lastly thanked Paul Thomas Anderson, the director behind the film for believing in her and for bringing her character to life. She thanked him further for his “vision, your trust, and your brilliance.”
Teyana Taylor was up against Emily Blunt for ‘The Smashing Machine’, Ariana Grande for ‘Wicked: For Good’, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas for ‘Sentimental Value’, and Amy Madigan for ‘Weapons.’
