‘The Brutalist’ star Adrien Brody defends his viral 2025 Oscar speech: 'I really try to share what I mean to say

Earlier last year, in March, famed actor Adrien Brody took the stage and broke the record for the longest Oscar speech of all time. In a recent interview, the ‘The Brutalist’ star opened up about his speech and looked back on the chaos and ridicule that followed.While speaking to USA Today, the famed actor reflected on one of his most viral and well-known moments. Calling it a “very funny thing,” the actor further stated, “First of all, I’d like to see anyone really have perspective in that moment in their life, because you don’t have any. It takes me a while – as you can see – to express my thoughts, but I really try to share what I mean to say.”He also added that many people and circumstances were involved in getting him to that stage. In his attempt to include everyone and gather his thoughts, he ended up taking a lot of time for his speech. “I witness people blather on about things that … you know, no one’s criticizing as much,” he also commented.He added that while he knows this, he accepts that the entire situation comes with the life of glitz and glamour. Concluding his statement about his speech, the newly debuted Broadway star stated, “It clearly was a moment of profound contemplation and joy that I needed to try and express as well as I could. And sometimes I don’t.”Last year, Adrien Brody was called on stage to accept the award for Best Actor for his film, ‘The Brutalist.’ While he accepted the award and thanked everyone, he also gave one of the longest speeches in Oscar history. ‘The Fear of 13’ star spoke on stage for around 5 minutes and 30 seconds. He touched upon his career in the speech; furthermore, he addressed various global issues, including racism and systematic oppression, among others.On the work front, Brody just debuted as a Broadway artist alongside actress Tessa Thompson in the play, ‘The Fear of 13.’
