Kolkata NGO launches campaign to reduce plastic pollution

In a bold move towards environmental stewardship, a Kolkata based NGO named Mrittika Earthy Talks, in collaboration with Red Bari, has launched a campaign aimed at combating plastic pollution on July 1. Recognising the urgent need for action, the organisation is spearheading efforts to advocate a ban on plastic usage. This initiative not only seeks to mitigate the detrimental impacts of plastic waste on ecosystems but also strives to foster a culture of sustainable living among the people of Kolkata.

To motivate individuals to embrace eco-friendly alternatives and take meaningful steps towards a cleaner, greener future, environmental activist and founder of Mrittika Earthy Talks Foundation, Somini Sen Dua, said, “The climate is in a bad condition. Plastic is carcinogenic and non-biodegradable. If you just ban something, it doesn’t work because you have to find an alternative. We have found certain alternatives like upcycled cloth bags and bunting, bamboo toothbrushes, and flasks.”

The campaign will distribute sustainable materials such as upcycled fabric bags, bamboo toothbrushes and flasks, organic paraben-free soaps, and potted plants, to name a few.
