Pop/Rock: This is the fifth album by New Jersey band The Gaslight Anthem, whose previous four records pretty much followed the same path — frontman Brian Fallon belting out songs inspired by Bruce Springsteen and 80s punk. Their latest album, Get Hurt, is disappointingly overproduced.
1x1 polls
Lead single Rollin' And Tumblin' (not a Muddy Waters cover) is more like a corporate yuppie rock anthem from the 1990s. The keyboard-driven ballads are drab — Underneath The Ground reminds you of a 90s boy band. Penultimate track, Break Your Heart, is the only time they are more rock and less pop. Stray Paper has Fallon singing inane lines like, 'You better tell nobody but God all the things I've seen,' that is straight out of a Bon Jovi set list.

That leaves us with an overblown rock record. When the title track fails to hold the line on power balladry, you wish they had hired another vocalist for some of the songs. The plodding harmonies of Stay Vicious is the most common thread to The Gaslight Anthem's previous work. Throw in a gospel choir on 1,000 Years, and you've got the kind of song contemporary bands won’t touch.
