Orange was Prince's favourite colour, not Purple

Music icon Prince's favourite colour was orange not purple, his sister

has said. The colour is associated with the singer because of one of his biggest hits '

Purple Rain

', which also became the title of the 1984 movie, starring Prince.

In an interview with Evening Standard, Nelson made the revelation while talking about the upcoming memorabilia auction on Prince.

"The stand-out piece for me is his orange Cloud guitar. It is strange because people always associate the colour purple with Prince, but his favourite colour was actually orange," she said.

Recently, the

Prince Estate

along with

Pantone Color Institute

launched a standardised custom shade of purple representing Prince.

The hue, named Love Symbol #2, has been inspired by the singer's custom-made Yamaha purple piano.

Prince died on April 21 last year at the age of 57.
