It was heartbreaking when the news of Johnnie Walker’s passing away came out. Only months after this retirement, Johnnie Walker breathed his last, and the world can never be the same without him. His demise has left several hearts shattered, but the pain of her grieving wife Tiggy can not be described in words. However, more than mourning the loss, she wants to celebrate the life her husband lived. Thus, taking to her social media handle, she shared an overwhelming post that caught the attention of everyone instantly.

Last night, sharing a photo of a champagne bottle on the table, she quizzed: "What does a new widow do on NYE?" Raising a toast to her late husband, she continued writing "She listens to @BBCRadio2, opens a bottle and toasts her amazing husband. Courageous, wise, strong, creative and never dull. They didn’t call him the Pirate for nothing."

"Above all the most devoted loving husband, please raise a glass to Johnnie Walker," she concluded.


Her heartfelt post received more several sympathetic comments. "Ohhh Tiggy, god bless you ,and thank you for taking such good care of our Johnnie , you love for each other was amazing… Stay strong and head held high," wrote a netizen, “Truly sorry for your loss. JW with his amazing voice and music taste was all I listened to on Radio 1 in my teenage years," penned another.

Johnnie Walker was loved for his Sounds of the 70s and The Rock Show programs. He was battling with terminal respiratory disease. It was five years ago when Johnnie shared he had idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis - a progressive illness. In 2024, his health deteriorated hugely and suddenly. There came a point where he could barely leave his house.

"A beautiful tribute to the best of the best. The pirate, now broadcasting from heaven," read another comment.

Earlier as well Tiggy wrote a statement with similar sentiments. She shared, "What a day to go. He'll be celebrating New Year's Eve with a stash of great musicians in heaven. I couldn't be more proud of Johnnie - how he kept broadcasting almost to the end and with what dignity and grace he coped with his debilitating lung disease."
