Fetty Wap is back. The 'Trap Queen' rapper, born Willie Junior Maxwell II, dropped the news on Monday that his fourth studio album 'Zavier' is hitting on March 27, less than three months after walking out of prison.
He rolled out the announcement with a cinematic trailer on social media, using it as a moment to get real about what the last few years felt like and what coming back means to him. "When you lose the money everybody think that's the worst part," the 34-year-old said in the
Instagram clip. "When it get real quiet that's when it hit different. I got so used to hearing Fetty everywhere I go, before I even knew who Zavier was. Somewhere in all that, I became a character in my own life. People really loved what I could provide for real, not who I really was. When they take everything away, what you got left is the person your momma made."
He also took to Instagram separately to share a black and white studio photo, captioning it with a line that said everything without saying much: "The last time the studio felt like this…I was making Trap Queen."
According to Billboard, the album will feature 17 songs, and Fetty described it as a reflection of a new chapter in his life.
Talking about the comeback, he told the outlet, "I'm just happy and grateful to be back and thankful that my fans didn't forget about me. I'm so thankful to my family, fans and team for holding me down."
From prison to a fresh start
Fetty Wap walked out of prison having served just over three years of a six-year sentence, according to People. Back in August 2022, he had pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess controlled substances and was sentenced in May 2023.
After getting out, he put out a statement to Billboard, making clear where his head was at. The statement read - "I want to thank my family, friends, and fans for the love, prayers, and continued support. Right now, my focus is on giving back through my community initiatives and foundation, supporting at-risk young children by expanding access to education, early tech skills, and vision care for young kids and students so they can show up as their best selves. I'm committed to moving forward with purpose and making a meaningful impact where it matters most."
Once 'Zavier' drops, Fetty Wap will take the show on the road with four welcome home shows across the country. From a prison cell to a studio to a tour, the comeback is very much real and very much underway
