Gucci Mane is a famed American rapper who has been actively releasing music and working in the industry since 2001. He has been one of the pioneers of early hip hop and rap culture, and is known as one of the artists who brought the genre to the mainstream public. Recently, he made headlines after an alleged report stated that he was the victim of an attempted robbery and kidnapping by fellow rappers. Here is all you need to know about the beloved rapper and the legacy he has created over the past 25 years.
Who is Gucci Mane
Gucci Mane, born Radric Delantic Davis on February 12, 1980, in Bessemer, Alabama, did not have an upbringing related to music. He comes from a military-heavy background: his father was a former serviceman and power plant worker who was stationed in Korea for 2 years, and his grandfather served in the military for almost 12 years, including WW2 as a chef. His maternal grandfather was also part of the military and served in the WW2 in the Pacific region.
Despite the strong military background, Mane inclined toward music and rapping. During his school years, the rapper would freestyle along with his friends and was well known for his skills amongst his peers. After his arrest in 2001, he started pursuing rapping professionally and released his first song, ‘La Flare’, on CDs.
His first album, ‘Trap House’, came out in 2005, and the rest is history. Since then, Mane has worked on creating a lot of music and has even managed other artists and rappers to help them succeed in the industry.
Some of Gucci Mane’s achievements over the years
Ever since he started his music career in 2001, Gucci Mane has been a force to be reckoned with. Over the years, he has accumulated a lot of wealth and accolades. One of these includes the fact that he is also a credited and best-selling writer. As reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the rapper’s autobiography, titled ‘The Autobiography of Gucci Mane’ which he wrote after his stint in prison, reached various best-seller lists at the time of its release in 2017. Other than that, the ‘I Get The Bag (feat. Migos)’ rapper has also started his own fashion line as well as his own record label.
About the case
PEOPLE reported that the rapper had been a part of a robbery and kidnapping, allegedly at the hands of fellow rapper Pooh Shiesty and Big30. He was allegedly robbed and kidnapped from a music studio by 9 people, out of whom 8 have been arrested so far from Dallas, Memphis, and Nashville.
