How blind faith in a Preacher destroys a girl's life

Under the weekly series 'Abhinayan', a play

Bibi Sahiba

was staged at Tribal Museum. The seventy-minute long play is directed by Gurinder Makana and

Suvidha Duggal

. Both the directors and Arvinder Chamak from Sure Shot Art International Creations, Amritsar played the lead roles.

The play revolves around three main characters, the woman who is a victim, a preacher, and a foreign returned man. Inspired by the trend of people believing in preachers blindly, the play portrays a story where the parents of a young woman have faith in a preacher and leave their daughter at his 'Dera'. However, unknown to the parents the preacher turns out to be an evil man pretending to be dedicated to God. The woman becomes his victim and slave, the preacher rapes her regularly and the harassment leaves her traumatized. The rigorous harassment and violence mould the mind of the young girl and she starts to enjoy the rape and is unable to differentiate between the right and wrong. In a series of flashbacks of woman's life, the act depicts erosion of her mind. The play concludes with the man returning from abroad enlightening the woman about right and wrongs happening with her. The music of the play was of Sufi genre including the famous song Bulla Ki Jana written by Bulleh Shah. The play was staged for the 36th time.
