A group of folk artistes, who represented Odisha at the Republic Day parade in Delhi last month, were felicitated by the state government in an event held at the

Utkal Mandap

yesterday. The group consisting up 80 artistes from Kalahandi had performed

Bajasal

dance in the national capital on January 26.

The Odia Language, Literature and Culture department felicitated these artistes in a special event. These artistes also performed Bajasal in a procession rally from

Rabindra Mandap

to Utkal Mandap and later on the stage.

“The Bajasal team was praised at Delhi for their performance. They made us proud by staging the folk art from Kalahandi at such a prestigious event,” said Mishra.

On the occasion, the department also restarted its monthly folk-art event,

Ama Lokakala Ama Sanskruti

, in which along with the Bajasal team, a

Dulduli

troupe from Bolangir staged this popular folk art from western Odisha.


“The monthly folk art event was halted due to Covid-19 pandemic. We are resuming this event where we dedicate one day in every month for folk dance and music of the state,’ said Ranjan Das.
