Sandip.Bal@timesgroup.comIt’s that time of the year again when you want to give your home a nice makeover. You want your home to radiate with warmth for the Diwali party. To help you deck up your personal space, decorative items like lights, diyas and terracotta designs are found in plenty at the markets. At the same time, keeping in mind the growing levels of pollution and time limit for bursting crackers, many are opting for environment-friendly items.
We share some ideas with you.
Go for an ethnic look
Diwali is an Indian festival so staying in touch with your roots is important. Go ethnic this Diwali, even with the decorations. Handmade diyas and vibrant rangolis will light up your home in an instant. Unit-I market is full of shops where you can get the required stuff at a real low cost. “I have bought a string of decorative lights to give my home a beautiful look. These lights look colourful from outside, making the festive mood all the more upbeat. Diyas placed on a bright
rangoli is enough to light up the interior,” shared Shatabdi Mishra, a teacher.
Stack up on strings of lights
Chinese lights and crackers are ruling the
Diwali markets like every year. “There is always a demand for Chinese items as they are cheaper. In India, we don’t have any cheap lights option to decorate our homes,” said Bastab Hota, a stall onwer. Most residents have been using these for their Diwali decoration for years now. Not only the lights, even crackers from the neighbouring country are preferred here.
Find terracotta options from exhibitions
Terracotta items can also be beautiful décor items this Diwali. Find some little gems like earthen lamps at the Exhibition Ground in the city. Artisans from across the state have set shop at this fair to cash in on the Diwali mood of the city people. “Every evening, we see good gathering of people and they also enquire and buy stuff from us. It’s a good time for us to do business here,” said Sarita Sahu, a stall owner.
