Declamation, debate mark Hiroshima Day

An inter-school declamation contest on the theme ‘A World Free from Violence against Children is Possible!’ marked

Hiroshima Day

on Tuesday. Participants from various schools of the Tricity shared their views on the fallouts of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima in Japan during

World War-II

.
Even though the bomb was dropped on August 6,

1945

, the impact of its radiation continues to trouble the people of that region. The focus of the Hiroshima Day event in Chandigarh was on child rights and violence against children. The event was organised jointly by NGO Yuvsatta and State Legal Services Authority (SLSA) in Sector 36.
Justice Jaswant Singh, while speaking during the event, said that there has been an incremental development of legislative and policy reform, and enhancements in child protection systems. However, even as we celebrate these notable achievements, we must also recognize that children remain at risk of violence in every setting. So, we need to ensure a safe environment for progress of girl child at all levels. The participants strongly voiced their demand for a world free from any kind of violence against children. Mahavir Singh, member secretary, State Legal Services Authority (SLSA) said that such initiatives should be organized at regular intervals in all educational institutions, so that the message of ‘Protecting and Promoting Child Rights’ should reach to the masses.
