The Wildlife Week, observed during the first week of October, recently came to an end with plethora of activities and events. It also apprised people about the importance of conservation of wildlife. UT’s department of forests and wildlife had planned sessions and programmes to create awareness among the masses for the protection of wildlife, nature and other natural resources.
During the closing ceremony of the event, celebrations took place at Butterfly Park in Sector 26 where governor of Punjab, VP Singh Badnore who is also the UT administrator took part along with Manoj Parida, adviser to the administrator. Logo and website launch of the department also took place on the occasion.
Debendra Dalai, UT’s chief conservator of forests said the logo is designed around the basic concept of five elements of life, where environment friendly green and the tree made in green represent prithvi and vayu besides representing nature. Calm and life-giving logical blue representing jal and aakaash stands for the truth, trust and the serenity being presented by the forests. During the function, the winners of various competitions held at school level were awarded for their efforts. From controlling pollution to banning single use plastic… various videos were created to highlight the issue.
