A film festival, a workshop and bazar to celebrate the environment
Kriti, a development praxis and communication team, is celebrating its 25th anniversary by inaugurating ecoFestival 2024 in the capital. The event is aimed at promoting sustainable living practices and raising awareness about environmental issues.
The three-day festival includes ecoReels Film Festival, showing films on environment, climate change and sustainable development; ecoArt Workshops, a space to create gifts and decor items from waste; and ecoHaat, a bazaar for shopping sustainable goods. The ecoReels Film Festival opened with an Oscar nominated film ‘Against the Tide’ by Sarvanik Kaur. The day included films like ‘Bombay Has No More Crocodiles’ by the students of Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS), who were present at the festival with other filmmakers - Rajshi Chauhan of ‘Udhampur: City of Goddess’; the director of ‘Mulsotan: The Rooted’, Janantik Shukla; and Aditya Ray, sound engineer and music composer of ‘Colonies in Conflict’.
The film festival was attended by around 250 diverse audience members who engaged in discussions with the filmmakers on their thought-provoking films and commented on the different issues the films brought up.
Over the next two days (i.e. 2nd June & 3rd June 2024) the film festival will showcase a wide range of films from the north-east and central regions of India, as well as from the states of Maharashtra and Karnataka. June 3 will be dedicated to the community audience, featuring impactful Hindi language films that resonate with local experiences and perspectives.
The ecoReels Film Festival was organised by the Kriti Film Club. The film club is a pioneering platform dedicated to promoting social change through documentary films and community-driven initiatives. Founded on the principles of grassroots activism and volunteerism,
Kriti Film Club has been at the forefront of advocating for environmental consciousness, social justice, and sustainable development for the past 25 years. Through its flagship programs and collaborative endeavours, Kriti Film Club continues to inspire positive change and empower communities across India.
In addition to the film festival, attendees could participate in ecoArt Workshops, where they explored creative techniques using eco-friendly materials to craft unique gifts and decor items. The ecoHaat shopping experience further extends opportunities for patrons to support sustainable practices by showcasing a diverse range of eco-friendly products. These
Workshops and haat will also be open along with the film festival for the next two days. After the ecoFestival concludes on June 3rd, the Kriti Film Club presents 'Films and Movement Journies,' a captivating event spanning from 7th to 9th June, 2024. On June 7th, a dynamic array of filmmakers and activists will convene for a thought-provoking panel discussion centred on the intersection of documentaries and social change. June 8th offers a special retrospective film screening of 'Majma,' originally released in 2001, accompanied by an insightful dialogue session with acclaimed filmmaker Rahul Roy. Finally, on June 9th, don't miss the premiere screening of 'B.R. Ambedkar Now & Then,' followed by an engaging discussion with filmmaker Jyoti Nisha.
