At NSD's 8th theatre festival, folk performances from

Himachal Pradesh

and Chattisgarh were performed portraying the vast cultural diversity in India. Also, there was anarkali puppet show and the act narrated the legendary tale of the royal court dancer.

Talking about his play ‘Sitayan’, Malay Ray said, “Sitayan tells the story of women from past, present and future. I deliberately say the word ‘future’ here because I do not see any substantial change happening in society. Through this play we wanted to show the position of women in India and pose many questions to society. I promote humanism rather than feminism.

“The influence of Lalon Shah transcends beyond Bengal. His ideologies have inspired many people who are trying to connect his ideologies with the modern times. As theatre workers, it is our responsibility to highlight the dysfunctional elements in the society,” said Tropa Majumdar talking about her play ‘Baramkhana’.
