The India Vs The Netherlands match at the Feroz Shah Kotala stadium may have been on a weekday, but that didn’t deter the city’s professionals, businessmen, and students to make a beeline for the stadium to catch the match live.Yeh Dil Maange MoreWhile the Tricolor was the predominant colour at the stadium, the Kiwi supporters too were heard singing a Dutch song to cheer on their team.
Eric de Kruijle, a bio medical scientist, who had come all the way from The Netherlands, was heard singing “Oranje Boven, Hup Holland Hup”, which he said was the song they used to cheer on their team. His friend Castor was heard saying, “We expect our team to get the orange juice today” (this we were told means that they want their team to win).
Dhanda Hai YehAnd as scores turned up to watch Dhoni and his men in action, the touts had a ‘field day’, selling a `575 ticket for as much as `2500. But then the fans didn’t seem to mind that. Raman Das, a businessman, who bought a `575 ticket for `1800, said, “Tickets are available in abundance, you just need to find the right guy in this crowd.”
As the crowd swelled in number, shopkeepers of the nearby area also made the most, and bread pakoras and patties, which on other days cost `10, were sold at `15-20. Bottled water was sold at `25. The Tricolour, which was on high demand, courtesy the supporters, was sold at five times the original amount – `100. A DU student Abhinav Sharma was heard saying, “Yahan to tab bhi sahi hai, stadium ke ander to yahi flag `300 ka mil raha hai.”
JammedThough the Delhi Police were on their toes during the match, traffic management was a sore point at the venue. A major reason for this chaos was because of the problems with the parking lots. People were supposed to park their vehicles according to the parking lot number mentioned in their tickets but as there was no proper guidance available at the venue, chaos ensued.
