A FAIRY-TALE WOMEN’S DAY

Fairies, princesses, and superwomen, this party had them all. Several women in Goa gave in to their childhood fantasies and dressed in their favourite

characters

for one evening. These ladies rocked the dance floor at a beachside resort in Calangute as the sun set on the eve of International Women’s Day.

The party has become an annual meeting point for these women who painstakingly adhere to the theme. This year’s

theme

had women come out in characters from fairy tales. “It has been a great journey since the first Women’s Day party I hosted with just around six women. This is the 11th edition, hence we decided to have a theme of ‘fairy tale’ because I believe every

woman

should have her fairy tale,” said Kushi Dawda, who put the party together and styled herself as Rapunzel.

Every year the event felicitates one woman for her contribution to society and this year Rohini Gonsalves, who has a senior citizens care centre, was the lady of the evening. “I am so glad to have got this recognition for my work with the elderly and also to be a part of this event where women are flaunting their best avatar,” said Rohini.

The event women from all walks of life, from entrepreneurs to artists, socialites dressed in their best. We spotted Cinderella, Cat Woman, Tinkerbell, and fairy godmothers. Sonia Puri who was dressed as the Forest Queen said it was a good experience, “I am happy to see all these women out here who have taken the effort to come dressed,” she said. While Archana Bhobe, was clearly the best dressed in the intricate

costume

of the character Maleficient, there was Shivonne Gracias, who came as a member of The Incredibles.

Drinks flowed, tidbits were served, music played and entertainment ensued, the women clearly had a great time.
