Forest department conducts beach cleanup drive in Morjim

Goa Forest Department conducted a beach cleaning drive at

Morjim

beach on Tuesday morning, on the occasion of 69th Wildlife Week, 2020 in association with Morjim Seaturtle Trust. The main aim of this cleanup drive was creating awareness about the hazards posed by dumping of garbage and micro plastics to marine and coastal life and its impact on human health.

Around 140 people took part in this cleaning drive. Several trash items includes PET bottles, chips packets, milk packets, many kind of food packaging, fishing nets (pieces), tarpaulin sheets, plastic cups, plastic spoons, straws, glasses, small toys, decorative items, disposable plates and cups, liquor cans and so on were collected during this drive. The clean up on the 2 km long shoreline saw collection of more than 1000 kgs of plastic waste (65 big garbage bags) were collected.
