MLA Subhash Sudha on Wednesday said that the Haryana government would give Rs 2 lakh each as compensation to the families of three Kurukshetra residents who died due to suspected

jaundice

in Sector 3, Urban Estate, Kurukshetra.

Sudha said, "Not only this, the government will also provide every possible help to the family members of those who died due to jaundice. Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar has assured compensation to the surviving family members and to facilitate them in the future as per norms. The compensation amount would be handed over to the family members of the deceased very soon and the government is taking strict notice and cognizance on this issued."

Meanwhile, Thanesar sub-divisional magistrate (SDM)

Ashwani Malik

has also completed the inquiry into the jaundice episode, specifically in Sector 3 of Kurukshetra. He submitted his report to Kurukshetra deputy commissioner (DC). Malik said "We have completed the inquiry and submitted the report to the higher authorities and responsibility of the erring officials would be fixed in this matter. As the report is confidential, therefore, I cannot disclose the names of the officials."

On Tuesday, Haryana Congress president

Kumari Selja

also met the family members of those who died due to jaundice. While criticising the Haryana government, she demanded a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each for them.

On the other side, Kurukshetra DC Dhirendra Khadgata said, "The inquiry report has been sent to the Haryana chief secretary. Some negligence on the part of department (Haryana Shehri

or HSVP) has come to light. Probably, the CM has also announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the family members of those who died due to suspected jaundice."

Giving an update about the cases in Kurukshetra, nodal officer for controlling jaundice Dr S K Sahota said, "The number of confirmed jaundice cases has jumped to 84 as five cases came to light on Tuesday and four on Monday. Blood samples of a large number of residents from Sector 3 in Kurukshetra have been collected."

"The situation is being controlled slowly and around 150 employees of the health department are working in the field. 10 lab technicians are deployed to collect blood samples of residents," Dr Sahota said.
