200 sailors vie for top honours at the 34th Hyderabad Sailing Week

The national championship, which will be on till July 7, features 200 sailors from across the country, including 21 sailors from Telangana.
The sailing week was inaugurated by Governor of AP and Telangana ESL Narasimhan and the competitions began on Wednesday as sailors battled it out to in various categories.
Large crowds gathered at the Tank Bund road as people cheered on their favourite sailors. Telangana sailors Sanjay, Ajay, Sourabh, Ashwini and Kirti will also be participating in the event in the Laser 407 category, and the local boys are expected to receive a lot of support from the crowd.
“Hyderabad is a popular destination for sailing in the country. The wind conditions here, especially during the monsoon, are favourable in the Hussain Sagar and provide an ideal platform for budding sailors to hone their skills in boat handling and understanding wind shifts. Sailing is a popular eco-friendly sport and I’m happy to see people from all over the country participate in this event,” said Lt. Gen Paramjit Singh, Commodore EME Sailing Association.
As part of the Sailing Week, a Green Brigade Walkathon will also be held at Sanjeeviah Park today.
