An ode to the divine with Bharatanatyam

Classical music and dance lovers of the city had a field day on Sunday as city-based

Bharatanatyam

dancer,

Meera Seshadrinathan

staged a recital at Lamakaan. Meera's Bharatanatyam recital commenced with Nandi Chollu — an ode to the cosmic dancer Shiva in which the danseuse danced to the beats of mridangam set to

Kanda Jathi Triputa

taal and was choreographed by

Shijith Krishna

.
Up next was an exquisite piece of keerthanai called

Shankara Shri Giri

choreographed and composed by Leela Samson and Swathi Thiranal Maharaja respectively. Set in raag Hamsanandi, the piece manifested Meera's mastery over the nuances of the dance form. She concluded the recital with a thillana in raag Natabhairavi in praise of Rukmini Devi Arundael, founder of her alma mater, Kalakshetra.
