Indori women’s Teej swagger!

Amidst

mehendi

pop ups, hit

Bollywood

numbers and fascinating ethnic wear galore,

Indore

women groups brought in the festival of Teej. The festival which is celebrated primarily by

fasting

for a healthy and long life of spouse and family is observed every year by married women of various communities residing in Indore. Gathering with their gang of girls, the ladies go all out on ‘shringaar’ i.e. dressing up for the occasion. This year too, many groups got together to play teej songs from Bollywood and make the festival a fun affair rather than focus on fasting part.

One such gathering was organised jointly by Dolly Khatri, Ekta Mattha, Riya Gaba and Ritu Saluja. The décor of the venue was in sync with the mood of the occasion which is saavan, giving way to a pop of colours in the form of umbrellas, jhulas and ethnic earthen decorative pieces. “Teej also celebrates the spirit of saavan, which is monsoon for others. So we had incorporated various types of umbrellas in the décor. The pop of myriad colours only added in to the fervour” shares Riya, one of the organisers.

Unplugged and band performances also added more musical flavour to the evening.

Besides sitting down together for mehendi, the ladies also danced on ghoomar and leheriya songs in the evening. A special

performance was presented by Rupa Gupta. “Everyone is used to traditional dances on this occasion. I thought why not present something new this time” says Gupta. The ladies also sashayed around in swagger to present the festive wear in a rampwalk round where judges from within the group chose the title winners. The evening culminated with all members clicking happy selfies with props and while dancing to capture the memory of a happy get together until next year’s celebration.
