Traditions and fun mark Jaipur and Udaipur royals' Holi


The erstwhile royal families of Jaipur and Udaipur celebrated the festival of colours with much fun and gaiety recently. All drenched in colours and festivities, members of the Jaipur royal family celebrated the festival . The two-day fest witnessed traditions coming alive.

Jaipur's erstwhile royal family

Erstwhile Jaipur royal Padmanabh Singh - all drenched in Holi spirits
Erstwhile royal Padmanabh Singh and his younger sister Gauravi Kumari attended the Holika dahan at the palace where the former also participated in the puja and lighting the Holi fire. Both the siblings sported traditional Indian attire. On the occasion of Dhulandi, the next day, the celebrations were filled with colours, and fun. Flaunting a lehariya pagri, Singh was spotted having fun drenching in colours.

Udaipur too witnessed a colourful celebrations of the fest as the entire erstwhile royal family got together to ring in the festival. An annual affair, the Holika dahan was held at the Manek Chowk of the City Palace. Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, the erstwhile Mewar royal, tells us, “Holika Dahan Ceremony is a time-honoured tradition of Mewar which preserves the artistic, religious and historic interests for cultural conservation of heritage. We at The Palace, Udaipur celebrate the festival, share good wishes and happiness with everyone.” A mesmerising folk performance rendered by folk artistes added festive charm to the celebrations.
