Utsavam 2021 goes on floors in Kochi

The annual Utsavam festival that stages Kerala’s traditional art forms, has gone on floors in Kochi.

The fest, which began on February 20, Saturday, will be on till February 26, Friday. It is held at

Durbar Hall ground

and

Vasco Da Gama Square

in Fort Kochi.

The event began at Durbar Hall ground with a theyyam performance by K M Srinivasan and team. At the Vasco Da Gama Square, the inaugural performance was that of malavazhiyattam, by Vaimozhi Nadan Kala Sangham. On the first day, Durbar Hall also saw the staging of padayani, by Devi Vilasam Kalalayam and kalamezhuthum pulluvan pattum by Sree Nagaraja Kalavedi.

In the upcoming days, there will be the performance of many other art forms too, like pancharimelam, Kuchelavritham vanchi pattu, kanyarkali, kaakkarishi nadakam, tholpavakoothu, kathaprasangam, theyyam, arjuna nritham, ambatheeradi paattum padavettum, paakkanar kolam , aadivedan, kuthiyottam, poorakali, kalamezhuthum pattum, thirayattam, nadanpattun, ninabali, ambalapuzha velakali, margamkali, nangyarkoothu, chavittunadakam, kalarippayattu, ottan thullal, parayan thullal, kolkali, nadanpattu.

The artistes performing on February 21 are Melakalarathnam Kalamandalam Sivadas, who would lead a pancharimelam show, Ramadevi Amma who would stage Kuchelavritham vanchipattu, Drishaya Kalakendram that performs thirayattam and Natttillam team on Nadanpattu.

The upcoming days will also see the presence of artistes and performing teams like Madathil Bhaskaran, Shaymkumar Manjakkala, Krishnankutty Pulavar Memorial Tholpavakoothu and Puppet Centre, Bharathanoor C S Somasekharan, T Chanthu Panicker, Arjuna Nritham Kalalayam, Thaimozhi Nadan Kala Samskarika Kendram, Uthara Kerala Theyyam Kalakendram, V Vijayaraghavakuruppu, Kodakkadu Sri Panayacadu Bhagavathy Sthanam, Prajith Ram T, Philip D and Margi Usha among others.
