Kolkata metro sees a surge in digital payments as 9.3 crore passengers travel in the past five months
After the introduction of digital mode of payment in Kolkata Metro, a great enthusiasm has been observed amongst the passengers to purchase tokens or smart cards digitally, rather than opting for the traditional method of tendering the fare in currency notes.
Consequently, there is an increase in the number of commuters who have opted for payments through digital mode i.e. UPI, net banking, debit/credit cards to purchase tokens and smart cards, and recharge smart cards.
As per a recent data, more than 25.51% of total metro earnings come from digital mode of payment, and from July’24 to November’2024, this trend has been gradually increasing among commuters.
