An evening of dance, music and poetry

To celebrate

International Dance Day

on Monday, the show —

Bandhan Nache Gaane Taale

— was presented at a city auditorium. Dance, music and poetry comprised the gala event that kick-started with the performance of Shatabdi Mallik and Ayan Mukherjee. This was followed by an act by the
young students of danseuse Sulagna Ray Bhattacharya’s dance institute.

Sulagna, who was the main initiator of the show, said, “This event is a celebration of different rhythms on the occasion of International Dance Day. Bandhan Nache Gaane Taale is a collaboration of dance, poetry and music conceptualised by myself through the songs of Tagore and poetry of

Srijato

Bandyopadhyay.” The first half of the show also saw performances by

Avirup Sengupta

and his troupe, Mandakranta Roy and Rintu Das.

The next segment celebrated the taals used in Tagore songs. The script and narration of this segment was presented by poet-lyricist Srijato and songs were rendered by Chandrabali and Deepabali Rudra Dutta. Srijato had also penned several new poems for this production, which he narrated during the performance. Songs like Eki Labonye Purno Pran, Basanti Hey Bhubanomohini and Uriye Dhwaja were performed at the show.
