An evening of glitz and glamour

It was a star-studded evening in the AC Shamiana of Tolly Club recently as celebrities from different walks of life gathered to slay the ramp in designer Jyotee Khaitan’s collection. From Tolly celebs to politicians to artists, restaurateurs and diplomats — dignitaries were spotted donning gorgeous outfits embellished with sequins and thread work.

Rita Bhimani started the event — Brains, Beauty and Backstage — with a quiz show in which Bickram Ghosh, Arindam Sil and several others participated. Cricket Commentator Gautam Bhimani conducted the quiz before calling up Usha Uthup, who stole the show with a breathtaking rendition of Darling Ankhon Se Ankhen Char Karne Do.

The fashion palate
Stars ruled the ramp with gorgeous festive wears. Jyotee told us, “This is a festive collection for the ongoing wedding season. Usually we do a lot of zari embroidery for festive outfits but for this collection, we have done delicate resham embroidery highlighted with sequins. I did a lot of gowns, Indo-western drapes and lehengas for women with very feminine cuts. For men, we have Indo-western jackets and sherwanis with resham embroideries.”

Actress Tnusree Chakraborty kick-started the rampwalk followed by several other celebrities, including Anindya Chatterjee, Sauraseni Maitra, Jaya Seal Ghosh, Bickram Ghosh, Shuvaprasanna, Jürgen Thomas Schrod, Bonny Sengupta, Paoli, Arpita and others. Babul Supriyo and Shaheb Bhattacherjee were the showstoppers of the evening.

“All these celebs are my close friends and they walked the ramp to encourage and support me. This gives me the motivation to work even better in the future,” said the designer.
