Percussionist Biplab Mondal completes 50 years in the Bengali music industry

Percussionist Biplab Mondal recently completed 50 years in the Bengali music industry. To mark this special occasion, a musical event was organised that was attended by Biplab himself, apart from several other known faces from the industry. The evening had a long line up of artistes who came down to pay their tributes to Biplab in the form of songs, poems and words of affection. The event started with Srabanti performing the Rabindrasangeet, Dariye Acho Tumi Amar Gaaner Opare. The stage was further graced by several other artistes which included Manoj Murli Nair, Manisha, Iman Chakraborty, Chandrabali Rudra Dutta, Subho Dasgupta, Kalyan Sen Barat, Anita Paul, Avik Mallick, Deepabali Dutta, Goutam Das, Nandita Sarkar, Alo Kundu, Sridhara Gupta, Suchanda Ghosh, Aditi Gupta, Arindam Bandyopadhyay, Sabyasachi Chanda, Sutapa Bandyopadhyay Sarkar, Riddhi Bandyopadhyay and Devajit Bandyopadhyay.
“I didn’t realise it myself how and when 50 years passed by. Playing Rabindrasangeet for years and trying to make my own versions of it, I’d say there is scope in it. I thank god for his blessings,” said the

tabla

player.
A panel of guests that included the exponent’s dear ones and dignitaries from the industry were called upon for felicitating Biplab. Buddhadeb Ganguly, Srikant Chattopadhyay, Chitra Sen, Krishnakali, Amit Bandyopadhyay and Madhuritu consisted of the panel.
The programme came to an end with a dance drama interpretation of Tagore’s famous Chandalika.
