In a sunshiny orange dress and smile to match was Malini Akerkar who, along with Ali Mamaji (who opted for casual chic mode — black jacket teamed with blue jeans), warmly welcomed you to their sprawling design space on Tuesday evening.
It was time to ramble around and soak in the sight of a retrospective of work by Shahid Datawala, comprising seating, dining tables and chairs, coffee tables, beds, storage units, consoles and modular units in trendsetting and organic shapes.You could see that his furniture designs reflected his creativity with everyday objects transformed into a functional work of art — yes, you saw the inspiration derived from the poached egg and orange peel. You also viewed the works of young Priyanka Gala with her fluid forms, graceful lines and striking colours. Well, her shocking pink dress reflected her style.
Enjoying this feast of furniture over cool cocktails and hors d’oeuvres from Rahul Akerkar’s catering unit were Elsie Nanji, Preeti Vyas Gianetti in a sky blue top, Narendra Kumar who happily posed with foreign model Melena Raskovic, Akanksha Nanda, Krsna Mehta, Divya Thakur, Arjun Khanna, Jyoti Gwalani, Sheena Sippy, James Ferreira, Yamini Kohli, Avantika Akerkar, Remu and Naaz Zaveri, Beenu Bawa and Karen Anand. And most of the guests looked like they would rather relax on the stylish settees then go out into the crazy traffic of Mumbai.
