Ahead of International Women’s Day, on Saturday morning, Mumbaikars gathered at the The India Pen Show to celebrate empowered women and also rekindle their romance with the good old fountain pen, its ink and the nib that most of us have used during our formative years.
The initiative, which is now in its second year, saw a number of stalls selling fountain pens of various shapes and sizes, along with other stationaries like notebooks, pen holders, passport holders and nibs and inks of different kinds.
Other than that, 20 women of substance from different walks of life were also felicitated at the event for their contribution in their respective fields. During the panel discussion, while some credited their success to the unconditional support of their family members, others opined that it is all about knowing what one wants in life and going for it without an iota of self-doubt in their hearts.
The event also witnessed multiple workshops, namely: Devanagri Script Workshop, One Hour Calligraphy, Beginners Guide to Nib Tuning, Italics Calligraphy, Brush Calligraphy, Doodle Workshop and Fraktur Calligraphy. Two presentations pertaining to the aforementioned subject were also conducted: A Presentation On The Origin Of Fountain Pens, and History Design and Development of Fountain Pens.

The event saw a blend of presentations and workshops
Talking about his love for the fountain pen, the founder of this show, Vishal Singhi said, “I used to collect fountain pens as a school-goer, but I dropped that hobby as I went ahead with my life. Then, when I was working with a bank, a colleague gifted me a fountain pen and I was reminded of my days as a fountain pen collector. I wrote with it and realised that the joy of writing with it is unmatchable. Now, I have over 500 fountain pens of different types and I love gifting them to people as well. Every month, I gift more than five pens to people and they love to write with it, too.”
