To celebrate India’s
Independence Day, students from
KC College
, Churchgate, participated in a
Tiranga relay race
earlier this week. With the college taking a stand to add their voice to fight for the rights of transgenders, members from the community were an integral part of the celebrations. Post the flag hoisting, there was a street play performance and the race, which was called ‘I Love My Tiranga’ kick-started at 9 am. With 80 participants, the race started from the college’s premises and went up to Dahisar Check Naka. The race, which got done by 6.30 pm, saw each participant run for a kilometre to finish the race. A six-member team allotted spots to the participants and tracked their progress all along.

Speaking on the issue of gender equality, a member from Yuva Organisation, which works towards the rights of the transgender community, said, “It’s the 21st Century and we’re still fighting for some basic rights of the community. We are glad that youngsters are actively promoting the cause and hope for a brighter future ahead.” Post the completion of the event, the students celebrated the feat with their own little I-Day party.
