to attend the recently-concluded Indian Handicrafts and Gifts Fair (IHGF) 2019. Apart from the 3,000 exhibitors showcasing handicrafts and products for home, lifestyle, fashion and textile segments, the fair also grabbed eyeballs for its innovative attractions made out of industrial waste.
With an aim to encourage sustainable development with conservation of the ecosystem, the five-day fair saw installations made out of around 50 tonnes of waste material, including plastic, metal, wood and fabric. Installations of

points for the visitors. “To reduce plastic usage, we decided to do away with bottled water and instead, offered metal water bottles to the visitors and exhibitors, which can be refilled at the water stations spread across the venue. Many other initiatives have been taken to minimise carbon emissions,” said Rakesh Kumar, director-general, Exports Promotion Council for Handicrafts.

A 35-feet installation of an elephant was erected at the venue. It was made using three tonnes of metal scrap
