Bungee jumping in Ladakh was scary, but fun: Mitra Gadhvi
Mitra Gadhvi, who recently did bungee jumping in Ladakh, says, “It was an incredible experience.” The 3 Ekka and Chhello Divas actor adds, “I had tried my hand at bungee jumping for the first time in Rishikesh in 2017. After that, I had posted on social media that I wanted to do it again and finally, that dream came true after more than seven years. It was at an altitude of 10,500 ft over the Zanskar river in Ladakh and while it was scary, I had great fun. Bungee jumping makes you feel more alive. I have also done paragliding and river rafting and it’s thrilling. Next, I want to do skydiving.” Excerpts from a chat:
‘I have a phobia of heights’
I have a phobia of heights and even if I look down from the terrace of a high-rise building, I sometimes fear that I might fall. However, I wanted to conquer it. When I was on the platform just before my jump, I briefly asked myself whether I really needed to do it because it was super scary. However, I was also sure that I wanted to do it. This wasn’t planned at all. I went to Ladakh with friends and near Magnetic Hill, we saw a signboard about bungee jumping. I took permission from our tour guide and skipped a few other plans to ensure that I tried it out. When I reached the spot, we felt it was risky because it was right between two hills, we could see the river below, and it was very chilly. It was just before sunset, and there was complete silence all around. I could hear the river flowing and it was a beautiful moment. I eventually decided that there was no going back from here, and I am glad I did not give up. Just before you jump from the platform, for those few seconds, you don’t know what’s going to happen next. In fact, those could also be your last moments if something goes wrong. But once you take that leap of faith, it feels beautiful and nice. I want to do it again.
‘I felt more grateful for everything after this experience’
Just before you jump, there is anxiety and doubt in your head. But after I did it, I was high on emotions and for a couple of hours, I did not speak to anyone because I just wanted to be with myself. When I thought of the experience, everything else, like the small problems in my life, seemed so insignificant. I also felt content and grateful for everything I have.
