D-Town banks on festive season to create box office magic

After a mixed first half, where films like Jhamkudi, Ittaa Kittaa and Kasoombo did well at the box office but some other much anticipated movies didn’t live up to the expectations, D-Town is hoping that the second half of 2024 will be a better one for the industry. Film distributor Vandan Shah says, “We have high expectations from Fakt Purusho Maate and Udan Chhoo. I am optimistic that the second half of the year will be good for the industry.”

Another film distributor adds, “There were high expectations from Builder Boys, which was released last month and opened to positive reviews. Initially, it did above average business but eventually, it didn’t live up to the expectations at the box office.”

‘The festive season is usually good for D-Town’

Filmmaker Vinit Kanojia, whose upcoming film (with Rahul Bhole as co-director) is expected to release later this year, shares, “The festive season is usually good for our industry and I expect that trend to continue. A lot of filmmakers are ready with their films but haven’t finalised the release dates yet. We should have a clear picture in the coming days.”

Producer Vaishal Shah adds, “The first half of 2024 saw some big films and a couple of them did really well. At this point, apart from Fakt Purusho Maate, I am not aware of the release date of any big upcoming Gujarati film. So, we will have to wait and watch.”

Actor Hitu Kanodia feels, “It’s going to be an interesting second half. Franchise films like Fakt Purusho Maate are expected to do well, while films like Faati Ne? could turn out to be the surprise package at the box office.”

‘The first half of 2024 has raised the bar’

Aarjav Trivedi, who will be seen in Udan Chhoo, shares, “I feel the first half of 2024 has raised the bar for our industry. Jhamkudi’s stellar success has given the industry a big boost. It seems films with an element of comedy have done well this year, as such films excite audiences more. The second half has some great movies coming up, exploring different genres and subjects, and I hope the audience likes them.”

Aarohi Patel, who is looking forward to the release of Udan Chhoo and Ajab Raat Ni Gajab Vaat, says, “Films like Kasoombo and Jhamkudi got audiences back to the theatres. The first half showed that films which can be watched with your family are attracting more people, and I am optimistic about the next few months. I am glad that the writers have started experimenting, and we can expect some amazing films in the coming days. Along with family entertainers, films showcasing Gujarat’s culture and traditions are being received well. I am excited about both my upcoming films.”
