Yukti Randeria, who has done Gujarati films like Kahi De Ne Prem Chhe (2023) and Saiyar Mori Re (2022), is gearing up for “an exciting 2024.” The Surat-based actress shares, “I have a couple of good films lined up for release this year-Vanilla Ice-cream and an untitled courtroom drama. I feel lucky to be working with actors like Malhar Thakar, Vandana Pathak and sensitive filmmakers like Rahul Bhole, Vinit Kanojia and Preet. While growing up in Surat, I never thought that I would watch myself on the big screen one day. It has been a wonderful journey and I hope there is no looking back from here.” Excerpts from a chat:

‘I started off with small roles in plays’

During my first year of college in Surat, I started doing nukkad natak and quite enjoyed it. I started off with small roles in plays, but I learnt a lot. But within a few months, the pandemic struck, and I was quite sad. I auditioned for a few projects online and I was doing ads too. When I got selected for Kahi De Ne Prem Chhe and Saiyar Mori Re, I was over the moon. Saiyar Mori Re taught me a lot as an actress, and my performance was appreciated too. I was also selected for Balika Vadhu 2 but while I shot for a few episodes, most of those were not aired. However, I don’t feel bad about it because destiny had better things in store for me. I feel proud to have done a film like Saiyar Mori Re. Now, I am hungry for good roles-the medium or language don’t matter.

‘As an industry, we have come a long way’

Although Malhar (Thakar) is a superstar, he is a very friendly guy and warm towards everyone. I have also learnt a lot from Vandana Pathak and whenever I have any doubts, she guides me. Bey Yaar was among the first Gujarati films that I watched and when I watched Chhello Divas, I was pleasantly surprised. As an industry, we have come a long way and our audiences have evolved a lot. We just need to be patient and keep coming up with good Gujarati films.
