Singer, composer, lyricist and a performer,
Priya Saraiya dons many hats. But she says that she does it all just for the love of art and she doesn’t want to be part of a race to be the best. Instead, she is happy learning newer art forms and making herself better at her game. Wife of popular composer and singer
Jigar Saraiya of music-composer duo Sachin-Jigar, Priya says that even though they both belong to the same industry, there is no competition between the two as they revel in pushing each other in doing the best they can in their respective fields.
Priya recently released her new single Pritam Ni, which she says is a dedication to all the brides or women who would soon tie the knot. She says, “A bride has a lot to say but hardly ever gets a chance to express her feelings openly. And I saw that there are lot of women who create videos and post them online expressing their feelings, which is what inspired this song. Thankfully, I was able to come up with a melody that will connect with everyone and this song is dedicated to all the brides.”
While Priya treads her own path professionally, and quite successfully at that, she says that she is not a very ambitious person and just believes in learning new art forms and doing the best she can. Which is why there is no competition between her and her husband and a popular music composer Jigar Saraiya. “I am not a very ambitious person, so there is absolutely no space for any competition between the two of us. In fact, we understand our professional demands even better as we belong to the same industry. Even when we work together on a song, we work to make it better rather than thinking of who has contributed more to it and who should get the credit,” says Priya.
But she admits that it is challenging to live with a musician who is, on most days, lost in his own musical world. “I love the fact that Jigar is so passionate about his work. But it is challenging to live with someone who is so engrossed in his music. There are days when he would be constantly thinking about his music and would be lost in the process- so much so that I would feel there is something that is bothering him and every time I will ask him about it, he would simply say, ‘I am thinking.’ And that thinking process goes on for hours. So, it is challenging, but I have no complaints. I love his work and his passion about it,” says Priya.
