Apurva Asrani, who wrote and edited '

Aligarh

', recently visited the

British Parliament

on the invitation of MP

Stuart Andrew

. Andrew had seen the trailer and a few clips of the Manoj Bajpayee-starrer, and wanted to congratulate Asrani on writing such a "thought-provoking film."

Asrani tells us, "A few days ago, I had the honour of a personal guided tour of the Houses Of Parliament by Conservative British MP Stuart Andrew - and he's quite good looking, I must add! Even as preparations were underway for the Queen’s speech, Stuart was gracious enough to walk us through both Houses. He was joined by Eric Ollerenshaw OBE, who is a former MP, and he shared wonderful anecdotes about the history of their parliament."

The writer-editor adds that they discussed the film and LGBTQ rights. "We discussed Aligarh, Section 377 and the struggle of the British LGBTQ community over the years - Stuart and Eric are both gay and were key players in getting the historic gay marriage act passed. I was so inspired to hear him say that there were several gay MPs in their parliament and that UK had the 'gayest' Parliament in the world! I also filmed a short interview with Stuart, who had a beautiful message for the Indian LGBTQ community and for the powers that be. I will soon put it up online," adds Asrani.
