Based primarily on brother-sister relationships, it further focuses on siblings' bond and human relationships in general. The film is a grown-up version of Majidi's previously directly Children of Heaven (1997), set in Mumbai.
Speaking about his experience of shooting the film in Mumbai, Majidi reportedly said that ‘Beyond the Clouds’ was the first film he shot in the digital format. According to him, the digital technology provides filmmakers with many tools and allows you to capture situations that are not available in the real world. However, he also felt that it can easily distance you from the essence and purpose of your film.
The Iranian filmmaker is also a great follower of Satyajit Ray’s cinema. Shedding some more light on the same, he reportedly added that he is an admirer of Satyajit Ray and his introduction to Indian cinema has been through his films. However, when he studied Indian cinema more closely, he realised that finding Ray-like sensibilities in contemporary cinema was a dream.
