'Dhadak 2' Box Office collection day 4: Siddhant Chaturvedi-Triptii Dimri's film earns just Rs 1.4 crore on Monday; faces heat from ‘Mahavatar Narsimha’ and Ajay Devgn's ‘Son of Sardaar 2’

Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri teamed up for ‘Dhadak 2’, a film that had all the right ingredients, powerful performances, a meaningful message, and mostly decent reviews. Directed by Shazia Iqbal, this Hindi remake of the Tamil film ‘Pariyerum Perumal’ was expected to make waves at the box office. But four days in, the numbers tell a different story.

A promising weekend, but a worrying Monday

After a fair start on Friday, the film managed to grow over the weekend. ‘Dhadak 2’ opened with Rs 3.5 crore on Day 1, followed by Rs 3.75 crore on Saturday, and peaked on Sunday with Rs 4.15 crore, its best day yet. However, the real test came on Monday, and unfortunately, the film stumbled. Early estimates suggest that ‘Dhadak 2’ collected only Rs 1.40 crore on Day 4, taking its total box office collection to Rs 12.80 crore.


Although a drop is normal on Mondays, this sharp fall has raised concerns about the film's long-term performance, especially since it didn’t see a major jump even during the weekend.

Facing a tough crowd at the box office

One major reason behind ‘Dhadak 2’’s struggle could be the strong competition it is up against. The film released alongside Ajay Devgn’s ‘Son of Sardaar 2’, which performed better with Rs 2.50 crore on Monday, and a four-day total of Rs 27.25 crore. Another strong contender is ‘Mahavatar Narsimha’, which made a solid Rs 8 crore on Monday. And then there’s ‘Saiyaara’, a clear crowd favourite that continues to draw audiences, earning Rs 2.5 crore on Monday alone. With such big titles in theatres, ‘Dhadak 2’ is struggling to hold its ground and attract footfalls.

A new story, not a direct sequel

While the film is titled ‘Dhadak 2’, it is not a continuation of the 2018 film ‘Dhadak’. Instead, it stands alone with a fresh storyline and characters. The plot follows a law student who falls in love with his classmate. But things take a dark turn when her family begins to harass him due to caste differences. The film tries to tackle social injustice through a love story.

Day 4 occupancy

‘Dhadak 2’ saw modest theatre attendance on Monday, with an overall Hindi occupancy of 14.26%, as per early data. The film struggled to fill seats in the morning with just 8.36%, but witnessed a slight improvement as the day progressed, 15.30% in the afternoon, 14.59% in the evening, and 18.80% during night shows.
