‘Mahavatar Narsimha’ needs just Rs 54 lakh to become the 50th biggest hit of Hindi cinema
What makes this number especially significant is the looming milestone. Mahavatar Narsimha now needs just Rs 54 lakh more from its Hindi version to enter the prestigious club of the Top 50 highest-grossing Hindi films of all time. Currently, Kartik Aaryan’s 2022 blockbuster Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 occupies the 50th spot with Rs 184.32 crore. If the trend continues the animation giant will surpass that total within the next 2 days, cementing its place in Hindi cinema’s record books.
A Rare Success for Animation
The achievement is all the more remarkable considering the genre. Animated films and especially based on Indian mythology in India have traditionally struggled to find mass acceptance, often dismissed as niche content. Mahavatar Narsimha, however, bucked the trend. By blending high-end animation with a mythological narrative rooted in Indian culture, the film has appealed to both families and youngsters. Word of mouth has been particularly strong in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, where mythological storytelling retains a strong cultural pull.Strong Legs at the Box Office
The film’s journey has been marked by resilience. After opening to low numbers, it steadily grew thanks to positive feedback and repeat family audiences. Even after crossing the Rs 150 crore mark, Mahavatar Narsimha refused to slow down drastically, maintaining weekday collections of over Rs 1 crore well into its third week. The consistency highlights how well it has connected with audiences. The recent weekend boost with collections touching nearly Rs 2 crore on Sunday indicates that the film still enjoys footfalls despite competition from newer releases. It has already withstood competition from names like Saiyaara, Coolie and War 2 and is currently taking on Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor’s Param Sundari. Trade believes that the weekday drop is natural at this stage, but the overall trend remains healthy enough to push it past the Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 benchmark.
If Mahavatar Narsimha manages to breach the Rs 184 crore mark, it won’t just be a personal triumph for director Ashwin Kumar but also a landmark for Indian animation. It will prove that animated features, when crafted with cultural resonance and visual finesse, can compete with mainstream live-action spectacles at the box office.
