Vicky Kaushal’s historical epic Chhaava has achieved another milestone, cementing its place among the highest-grossing Indian films of all time. The film has now overtaken Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 to claim the 10th spot on the all-time Indian box office charts. As per trade reports, Chhaava has collected Rs 526.05 crore in India, surpassing Gadar 2’s Hindi total of Rs 525.7 crore. The collection also includes the Telugu release numbers, the film is amongst the first Hindi releases of the year to have a Telugu version.

For exactly a day Gadar 2 had become the biggest hit of Hindi cinema but it slipped in ranking thanks to Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan.Chhaava has already become the 6th biggest hit of Hindi cinema beating the collection of SS Rajamouli and Prabhas’ mammoth hit Baahubali 2- The Conclusion.

Directed by Laxman Utekar, Chhaava tells the story of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, son of the legendary Shivaji Maharaj. The film’s strong emotional core, powerful performances, and grand battle sequences have struck a chord with audiences, particularly in Maharashtra, where it has seen phenomenal footfalls. Vicky Kaushal’s intense portrayal of the warrior king has received immense praise, further cementing his reputation as one of Bollywood’s most versatile stars.

Chhaava’s box office trajectory has been remarkable. Starting with strong opening numbers, the film sustained its momentum with excellent weekday collections, driven by positive word of mouth. The film's collections remained steady even in its fourth week, allowing it to cross Gadar 2 and enter the elite Rs 500 crore club in India.

With this feat, Chhaava now stands among some of the biggest Indian blockbusters, including Pathaan (Rs 543.09 crore), Animal (Rs 553.87 crore), and Stree 2 ( Rs 597.99 crore) . The film has proven that content-driven historical dramas can still draw massive audiences, even in a market dominated by action spectacles.

For Sunny Deol, Gadar 2 was a historic comeback, reviving the magic of his iconic 2001 blockbuster Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. The film performed exceptionally well in mass circuits and single screens, but Chhaava’s sustained hold in both urban multiplexes and rural centers gave it an edge.

With Chhaava continuing to perform well, trade experts predict it may even challenge Pathaan , Animal and Stree 2 numbers in the coming weeks. The film’s success is a testament to the audience's love for historical sagas, and Vicky Kaushal’s growing stature as a leading box office force. Post Chhaava, Vicky will be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War with Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt and he also has Amar Kaushik’s Mahavtar lined up where he will be playing Lord Parshuram- the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishu and the film is slated to release in 2026.
Vicky was also supposed to team up with his Uri- The Surgical Strike director Aditya Dhar for The Immortal Ashwatthama, a poster was also released to announce the film. But after a lot of back and forth Vicky left the film and Aditya later decided to shelve the film. In an interview he stated that they would need to wait and observe until technology becomes more affordable or until there is an increase in the number of cinema halls in the country, allowing more people to watch films.
